After studying fine art in Yorkshire, Christopher James trained, then worked as an antique ceramic restorer. Through regular research into the oriental pottery he worked with, he developed a love of art from the Far East. He was particularly drawn to the ancient Chinese tradition of 'Bird and Flower' painting. Christopher has combined in his paintings this enthusiasm with a fondness and appreciation of British wildlife gained on walks around the local coastline. He has developed an intricate and detailed style of painting, a style that requires many weeks of work to acquire.
A member of the Rye Society of Artists, Christopher has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition, London, The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, and the Towner Gallery, Eastbourne. He is currently shortlisted for the British Art Prize 2022.
