Dan Cimmermann

Dan Cimmermann

Inspired by the likes of TITIAN, VELASQUEZ & TURNER in the way that they apply painting address the figure DAN CIMMERMAN works in. A spontaneous manner, like the build up of graffiti on a wall.

Colour is important to him. Colours come and go, develop and mutate several times throughout the life of a work and as an avid collector of imagery, postcards, leaflets, drawings, sketches, photographs he draws upon these when creating a piece of work.

He likes the idea of using these images and by the act of defacing them and changing them in various ways they somehow become more significant to him therefore more poignant portraits - enough so to have shown in the National Portrait Gallery twice as a finalist in the prestigious National BP Portrait award.
