My coastal environment is an endless inspiration to me, the constant battle of sea verses land, the time between tides, the marine structures of lighthouses and sea forts, gun emplacements or coastal defence towers eroded and shaped by the elements. Living by the sea and being able to see the horizon gives me a strong connection to the world.

Sign Language was a direct response to your open call. I have taken a step away from my comfort zone of soft brutalist sculptures and have taken this opportunity to produce a series of ceramic plaques.

I wanted to find elements with a coastal theme that would connect the viewer with the surrounding landscape and architecture of the south coast.

Beach huts, wooden slatted, weather beaten buildings and the old shipping markers that can be found along the coast, all played a part in influencing this series.
