Marigold Plunkett

Marigold has an MA in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts, UAL. In 2020 she won the Artichoke Print Fellowship and the Ingram Prize, Founders Choice.

Working from her studio in Kent, her practice is instinctively figurative, her recent body of drypoint etchings have been influenced by the long stretches of time at home and portrays close family in interior settings. The mood of this work is somewhat ambiguous, the titles are light, but the images are tinged with a sense of vulnerability.

Whether working in print, or paint, her practice is drawing based and intimate in its nature. The expressive approach to her practice is underpinned by a concern with the role of the female gaze in contemporary portraiture and a fascination with the expressive potential of the human figure. Her subjects' gaze are often turned in upon themselves and, simultaneously, outward upon the viewer-sympathetic yet questioning and ultimately, relatable.
