Steve Thompson

At the centre of my painting practice is the magical potency of colour and light. My
work is often produced in series which develop from observation and a personal
response to abstracted representation.

When working with oils I tend to build up in layers and glazes allowing the colour
and surface to shift with illusionistic depths.

The source and the subject are the starting point but I enjoy the possibilities that
appear during the painting process consequently they hover between figuration
and abstraction. My aim is to convey as an artist my response and the richness
and the transitory nature of the world around me.

Stephen has been teaching Art and Art history in Secondary and Higher Education
for 25 years.

Paintings can be seen as part of the South East Open Studios from 3rd to 19th
June.
